'Property taxation system to be made easy'

Provincial Secretary Excise and Taxation (ET) Punjab, Shumail Ahmed Khawja has said that the property taxation system would be made easy and traders and shopkeepers would be facilitated in that regard. Assuring to Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) during his visit, here on Wednesday.
MCCI President, Malik Asrar Ahmed Awan, Senior Vice President, Khawaja Muhammad Usman and other members suggested to simplify the property taxation system to end corruption in the department and discretionary powers of ETOs and Inspectors must be abolished. The Secretary stressed that the capacity building of the government institutions was the need of the hour and the Excise and Taxation department was striving hard to resolve the problems being faced by the masses, especially the business community.
He said that 3.5 million vehicles had been registered in the province and all the details regarding the legality of the vehicles could be seen on the ET website. Shumail Ahmed Khawaja said that online registration centres had been established in 36 districts and it would be extended to the whole province. "Every possible step will be taken to facilitate the business community of the region and no stone would be left unturned in this regard", he said.
MCCI President Malik Asrar Ahmed Awan said that the national economy was already under stressed owing to the global economic crunch and the government decision to enhance the interest rate ratio, which would further add problems to the businessmen. He demanded of the government that ratio of property tax should be reduced and the amount collected from the Capital Value Tax and Property Tax might be utilised for the benefit of the traders and industrialists. He said that MCCI always assisted the government to collect and enhance the revenue generation resources. "Public Private Partnership is the only way to come out of the prevailing crisis," he stressed.
