The inhabitants of the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad have expressed their concern over giant billboards, installed by different traders along main roads, even on roof tops and intersections. The people underlined that these unsafe hanging billboards along main roads and in crowded localities of the city pose a threat to people's lives.
The residents said that 15 to 20 hoardings fall whenever it rains heavily or in case of a thunderstorm and several boards are installed close to schools posing danger to children. Some residents believe that billboards and advertising in general contribute negatively to the mental climate of a culture by promoting products as providing feelings of completeness, and popularity to motivate purchases.
Most of these billboards were illegal, but had been ignored up to then. Advertising board of different varieties of billboard can be seen today like Digital billboard, Ghost sign, Human billboard, Mediascape, Neon sign, Publicity, Sales promotion, Marquee (sign) and Truckside advertisement. Official sources when contacted said the illegal billboards erected at public places and would be removed for the safety of public.
