THE RUPEE: dollar eases

21 Jul, 2010

The rupee stood firmly against dollar and euro on the local currency market on Tuesday, dealers said. On the interbank market the rupee posted fresh gain of five paisa at 85.55 and 85.59 in relation to dollar for buying and selling due to strong supply of the US currency, they said.
In the second Asian trade dollar eased, inching closer to a two-month low versus euro hit last week as investors continued to cut long positions on more disappointing US economic data. The greenback rose a little against yen on bids from Japanese importers, but remained close to a seven-month low marked last week, leading many market players to look to what authorities in Japan could do about a firm yen.
Indian rupee was at Rs 47.11 in relation to dollar, Malaysian ringgit was trading at 3.2190 in terms of the US currency and Chinese yuan was available at 6.7795 per dollar.
