'DAE, vocational training curricula being upgraded'

Keeping in view the market trends and demand of local industry, contents of three technology courses of DAE and 17 courses of vocational training have already been revised. Process has been initiated for revision of course contents of 38 technologies of DAE and 101 Courses of vocational training to improve the workmanship of TEVTA graduates according to the needs of the local industry.
Course contents of 13 technologies of DAE and six courses of vocational training have already been under the process of up-gradation and revision. This was stated by the Chairman Technical And Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) Saeed Ahmad Alvi while briefing Carmela Conroy US Consul General in Lahore and Julie A. Koenen, Officer in-charge of USAID in Punjab at TEVTA Secretariat.
TEVTA authority members and directors were also present on the occasion. While briefing the US guests, Saeed Ahmad Alvi said that TEVTA, in consultation with the private sector, has developed an elaborate roadmap in line with the policy guidelines of the government and directions of the Chief Minister Punjab, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif."
We have sought collaboration with foreign donor agencies like JICA, UNIDO, GTZ, DFID, UNESCO to modernise the TEVTA Institutes for training manpower according to the requirement of local employers and global needs," Alvi said. He also said that they were hopeful to work with USAID in Pakistan for training of our people in different fields of agriculture and allied areas. We are also actively working with UNESCO for Curriculum Development and Planning co-operation to modernize our curricula.
He said that availability of skilled manpower is not only a key to success for industrial development in Pakistan but also necessary for individual socio-economic prosperity and poverty alleviation in the society. He said all necessary arrangements are being made to implement the roadmap approved by the Chief Minister Punjab in letter and spirit.
TEVTA is negotiating with British Council for international collaboration and accreditation of its courses with different universities and colleges of UK. Course contents of DAE in Leather Technology will also be revised and upgraded in consultation with the University of Northampton UK. City College Brighton and Hove are also being contacted to revise the Curriculum and Faculty Development in Electronics Technology.
Alvi said that a center of excellence in Mechanical and Architectural Technology would be established at GCT Railway Road Lahore. He also said that in order to complete this project in time, they were working according to the funding program of JICA.
"We are also communicating with Jonkoping International School of Business (JIBS) Sweden for establishment of Centers of excellence in Textile Technology with Boras University, Woodwork Technology with Nassjo Tracentrum, Ceramics Technology with Lidkoping Technology School, he said. In addition, special focus is also an apprenticeship and enterprise support to the graduates both for placement and micro-financing," Alvi concluded.
