A division bench of Lahore High Court (LHC) here Tuesday directed Higher Education Department to regularise, in the light of Supreme Court's orders, 162 lecturers and senior school teachers (SST) within one month. The bench comprising Justice Iqbal Hameed ur Rehman and Justice Chaudhry Muhammad Tariq passed this order in the petition submitted by Ramiza and others.
The petitioners, through their counsel, pleaded that SC had passed order to regularise 89 lecturers and SST. They said on the basis of this order, they applied in their departments for regularisation but they did not implement it. They further said they moved a petition in LHC, which ordered authorities concerned to regularise the petitioners. But instead of regularising them, higher education department issued interview letters to them.
They argued that they were being subjected to discrimination as earlier, employees were regularised straightaway in the light of SC' decision without conducting their interviews. They also said some officials of the department were harassing them to take back legal proceedings initiated against them. They prayed to the court to set aside the order of holding interviews and direct the department to regularise them forthwith.
