The University of Karachi has denied media reports that it sought additional time for the verification of degrees sent by the Higher Education Commission (HEC). The Pro Vice-Chancellor of Karachi University, Professor Dr Nasiruddin Khan, said on Wednesday that the HEC had sent 106 degrees to the University of Karachi for verification. He said that the task was performed on time in the light of the rules and regulations of the HEC.
Professor Nasir said that these degrees were sent back to the HEC along with a letter of the Vice-Chancellor of Karachi University. He stated that in the second phase the HEC sent 16 degrees to Karachi University for verification and of these 15 were found genuine while one was declared as 'fake'. Professor Nasir pointed out that the University of Karachi carried out the verification of degrees on time and in accordance with the rules and regulations of the HEC.
