Former President and Chief of Army Staff Pervez Musharraf Saturday had a telephonic conversation with army chief General Ashfaq Pervaz Kayani and congratulated him on extension in his service till 2013. The former President hailed the government's decision of giving extension to the serving CoAS in view of the present security situation and his professional capability.
Sources said the former and present army chiefs also exchanged views on the current security situation with particular reference to the on-going military operation in South Waziristan and some other parts of the tribal area. Kayani was made army chief by Musharraf.
Talking to Business Recorder from Dubai, one of the Musharraf's spokesmen Fawad Chaudhry confirmed the telephonic conversation between Musharraf and Kayani. He said that the two were former colleagues and talked to each other frankly. He said that Musharraf felicitated the COAS on extension in his tenure. The former army chief also hailed the government decision to give Kayani a three-year extension in tenure.
About Musharraf's activities in Dubai, Fawad Chaudhry said that the former President remained busy in holding meetings with his former friends, political aides and others. He said that Musharraf would formally launch his party on September 1, from London.
Asked about the participants who are likely to attend the London event, he said that there is a long list of people who have directly and indirectly contacted the former President assuring him of their political support. He said the former President would leave for London on Sunday. About his return to the country, Fawad said that the former President would announce the tentative date of his return on the occasion of formal launch of his party.
