An Indian weightlifting coach preparing athletes for the Commonwealth Games has been suspended by the Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) while they investigate accusations that he sexually harassed female lifters. Coach Ramesh Malhotra has been suspended after being accused of misconduct by Sydney Olympic bronze medallist Karnam Malleswari, now an IWF vice president.
"Malhotra has been suspended and we have been given a week to submit our report to the IWF," IWF vice president K Subramanya, who will head a three-member committee investigating the accusations, told Reuters. Malhotra has denied any wrongdoing. The Commonwealth Games will be staged in New Delhi between October 3 -14.
