An exceptionally high flood of more than 1 million cusecs water is gushing towards Guddu Barrage which will enter Sindh province on Tuesday. Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has cancelled leaves of policemen and government employees and ordered to take necessary measures to meet any eventuality arising out of the exceptionally high flood in Sindh after several years FWC Significant Flood Forecast for River Indus at Chashma.
In the light of the latest hydro-meteorological conditions, Flood Warning Centre predicted here on Friday that river Indus at Chashma is likely to attain from a very high to exceptionally high flood level ranging between 780,000 and 900,000 cusecs during the period from 0400 hrs. to 2000 hrs on 31-07-2010.
SIGNIFICANT FLOOD FORECAST FOR RIVER INDUS AT KALABAGH: The FWC predicted that river Indus at Kalabagh is likely to attain from a very high to exceptionally high flood level ranging between 760,000 and 900,000 cusecs on Saturday.
According to FWC July 30 flood situation report: River Indus at Tarbela and River Jhelum at Mangla are in Exceptionally High flood. River Indus at Kalabagh and Chashma and River Kabul at Nowshera are in very high flood.
SIGNIFICANT FLOOD FORECAST FOR RIVER JHELUM AT MANGLA: According to latest meteorological conditions heavy rainfall is expected in the upper catchments of river Jhelum. FWC predicted that river Jhelum at Mangla is likely to attain a very high to exceptionally High flood level ranging between 3,00,000 cusecs and 340,000 cusecs on Friday.
FWC advised all concerned authorities to take necessary precautionary measures to avoid/minimise loss of lives and infrastructure etc. Flood Forecast for River Chenab at Trimu: River Chenab which is in low flood at Marala, Khanki and Qadirabad at Trimu is likely to attain a Medium flood level ranging between 200,000 to 260,000 (cusecs) during the period 1800PST of 31-07-2010 to 0800PST of 02-08-2010.
Under this scenario, the inundation in low lying areas of districts Mandi Bahuddin, Chiniot, Jhang, Khanewal, Mulatn and Muzaffargarh is expected. River Jhelum at Rasul is in high flood. River Indus at Taunsa and Guddu and river Chenab at Marala, Khanki and Qadirabad are in low flood.
According to July 30 river flows/outflows and reservoirs level report 8,32,000 cusecs water is flowing in river Indus at Tarbela, 6,86,650 cusecs at Kalabagh, 7,43,500 cusecs at Chashma, 2,80,300 cusecs at Taunsa, 2,54,300 cusecs at Guddu, 1,94,600 cusecs at Sukkur, 90,500 cusecs at Kotri. The Sindh Irrigation is releasing 61,700 cusecs downstream to the Kotri barrage into the Arabian Sea.
River Kabul is in exceptional high flood running 2,53,700 cusecs water. It is over flowing its banks and has inundated vast tracts of Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda and Nowshera districts.
