PFVA demands duty waiver on imports of fruit, vegetables

The supply of fruit and vegetable from up country has been suspended after the heavy monsoon rains and floods across the country. All Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Exporters, Importers and Merchants Association (PFVA) has demanded the waiver of duties and taxes on imports of fruits and vegetables.
Talking to Business Recorder on Thursday Waheed Ahmed chairman PFVA said that heavy rains and flood throughout the country has damaged cultivated crops and chances of crops, to be cultivated, have also been minimised. As a result of suspension of supply, he said, the prices of all the vegetables have been doubled.
Under the current disruption of supply the situation during the month of Ramazan-ul-Mubarak, is expected to be worsen. In order to maintain the supply and price at reasonable level, he requested the chairman Federal Board of Revenue for waiver of all duties and taxes on import of vegetables till normal resumption of local supply or at least for three to four months. He said this would provide the consumers relief to some extent.
