Lahore High Court (LHC) here Thursday observing that the kiln workers also enjoy rights like other citizens of Pakistan and nobody could usurp their constitutional rights, directed Sialkot district police officer to recover 23 kiln workers from illegal detention of kiln owner Haji Razzaq and produce them before the court on August 9.
The court expressed serious displeasure over the failure of station house officer (SHO) Head Marala police station in recovery of the detained workers and held that under Supreme Court verdict, kiln workers could not be detained even for a day.
The court further remarked that police was bound to protect the rights of citizens even without receiving any complaint. Earlier, Omar Hayat filed a habeas corpus petition for the recovery of his wife, children and other family members from the detention of said kiln owner. He said the detainees were being subjected to torture and forced labour by the kiln owner and police had failed to get them released.
