Partly Facetious: Michelle Obama also on vacation with friends

07 Aug, 2010

"Michelle Obama has done a Zardari."
"Are you out of your mind? First she is the first lady than our President who is no longer the first lady's spouse. Second she is much liked by the American public. Third she doesn't take foreign tours at state expense."
"And you are not third time lucky."
"What do you mean?"
"Michelle Obama and her nine-year-old daughter Sasha arrived Wednesday on Spain's Mediterranean coast for a vacation with friends. They are staying at a luxury hotel where 60 rooms were booked for them. The room rate is between 300 dollars and 6000 dollars and the media is pretty sure she will be staying at the high-end suite/room. Oh and the delegation had flown to Malaga on a US air force plane."
"Our President went with two of his children too so that's similar but our President's room rate is 7000 pounds so Michelle has a lot to learn. Maybe she is staying a bit cheaper because it's a private vacation."
"Hotels are cheaper in Spain than in London. Besides if it's a private vacation then it's nobody's business."
"See here too she has done a Zardari. It is not clear whether it's a private vacation or a state visit. She is scheduled to meet King Carlos though the agenda is not clear which one can assume may elevate it to the status of a state visit and allow her to write off the entire vacation at the tax payers' expense. And even if she is paying for the rooms out of her own pocket the US taxpayer will pay part of the bill though how much is not clear. Housing the secret service alone which the Obamas are not going to pay for will cost the country 99,000 dollars."
"Oh and while we are sure Michelle will get to meet King Carlos we are not at all sure whether Zardari will get to meet the Queen."
"Michelle O is from a rich country. Surely the US tax payer can foot the bill."
"The US media is angered as is the public: they say that she has no business spending so much money when there is a recession and Americans are losing their homes."
"What is her agenda?"
"Like Zardari, the meetings are confirmed the agenda is open for debate."
"That proves my point."
"What?"
"Democracy has been served by the President's foreign tour."
