Model Town, Cantonment courts: Chief Justice LHC pays surprise visit

Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice (CJ) Khawaja Muhammad Sharif here Saturday paid surprise visit to Model Town and Cantonment courts and heard problems of lawyers as well as the litigants. Justice Sh. Azmat Saeed, Registrar and Member Inspection Team (MIT) accompanied the CJ.
The CJ inspected 'Bakhshi Khanas' at both the courts and ordered to improve cleanliness and provision of clean drinking water in the courts' premises. He said prisoners were also human and they reserved their rights. He lamented that at least 50 percent innocent peoples were imprisoned in jails. Talking to judicial officers, the CJ urged them to give immediate relief to the innocent prisoners.
Speaking to bar members, he said lawyers struggled for rule of law and supremacy of constitution. He said Chief Justice Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was a role model for both the judges and the lawyers. Sharif further said Allah Almighty blessed lawyers and judges with great honour and they should maintain it. He urged judicial officers and lawyers to honour each other and do not do anything reckless that would tarnish the image of black coat.
He urged the judges to give verdicts irrespective of personalities involved in cases and strictly in accordance with law. He issued directions for provision of books in the libraries of Model Town and Cantonment courts and for fool-proof security measures. Later, the CJ visited LHC Clerks Bar Association and announced 0.1 million for extension of bar premises. Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry was also present on the occasion.
