Chief Executive, Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) Saleem Akhtar has requested general public and electricity consumers to adopt precautionary measures during the rainy season. Saleem Akhtar said consumers must not touch electric poles or cables and should never use metallic wires for drying clothes since current can leak in it, instead, use a jute or cotton cord.
When ironing clothes, do not forget to place a dry cloth, blanket, carpet or wood under their feet or even better, wear shoes with rubber sole. Do not tie animals to an electricity pole, its supporting cables or under high-tension (HT) wires. Avoid touching electric switches, cables or equipment especially while hands, shoes or clothes are wet. Consumers should use a three-pin plug for appliances like iron, washing machine, refrigerator, etc and properly earth the same.
Repair defective and worn-out domestic wiring; also ensure that all internal wiring is properly earthen. Do not touch a pedestal fan or a water motor pump without switching it off. Consumers were advised to not stand under power transmission lines or near to a transformer. Construction of house under power transmission lines is illegal. Lesco CE informed consumers that teams have been formed for dealing with all sorts of emergency situations. He requested consumers that on noticing any leakage of electric current at their home or in the nearby transmission lines, immediately contact their concerned sub-division or call 118, 042118 or 0345-4950888 to avert any untoward incident.
