DADU: The administrator of UNDP Ms Helen Clark handed over keys of 200 houses to the area women in Khairpur Nathan Shah, in village Bagho Tewno, under the rehabilitation programme for the flood affected people of the province.

"At least 0.1 million houses will be provided under UNDP rehabilitation programme to flood affected people in Sindh," she said while addressing the gathering on the occasion on Sunday.

She said that so far, 80 to 90 million dollars had been spent from committed US dollars, 120 million in aid for flood affected people in the province.

She said UNDP is working with the federal and provincial government to work out the need for housing in the flood affected areas. The UNDP administrator said that 800,000 houses had been damaged in Sindh alone and added that other donors including the World Bank and other donor countries were mobilizing funds for the rehabilitation of the flood victims

Ms. Helen, who is second in command after the secretary general Ban Ki-moon and a former prime minister of New Zealand said that she was pleased to see that locals were working to rehabilitate their houses in collaboration with funding agencies and government.

Meanwhile, she was informed that there was dire need for supply of more water pumps to flush out the water from flood-hit areas.

A director of UNDP, Ajay Chavvar, Sindh Minister for Rehabilitation Muzaffar Shujra, provincial advisor to Chief Minister on Economic Affairs, Qaiser Bengali and Local MPA Imran Leghari were also present on the occasion.
