Wapda Chairman visits Chashma Barrage, powerhouse

As a part of his continuing exercise to personally monitor and assess the flood situation on ground, Wapda Chairman Shakil Durrani visited Chashma Barrage and Chashma Hydropower Project on Wednesday. During his visit to the barrage, the Chairman was briefed by General Manager (North) Projects about the current status of water flows and their regulations at the Barrage.
The Chairman was also informed about the damages to Chashma Barrage, Chashma Right Bank Canal and Gomal Zam Dam Project caused by the floods. The Chairman also held a meeting with the National Assembly Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi and the local administration at Chashma. He apprised the Deputy Speaker that in addition to taking measures for safety of its installations, Wapda has also been actively engaged for providing relief to the victims of flood by establishing relief and medical camps in the areas adjacent to its projects on the directions made by the prime minister and the Federal Minister for Water & Power.
The Chairman assured the Deputy Speaker that all necessary technical, administrative and auxiliary assistance will be provided to the local administration concerned without any let or hindrance to avert any eventuality. He further said that in view of the grave situation at Sukkur Barrage, Wapda Member (Water) is stationed there to help the provincial government.
National Assembly Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi appreciated the support rendered by Wapda for protection of the barrages and allied structures. Later, the Chairman paid a visit to Chashma Barrage and Chashma Hydropower Project. He was told that Chashma Power House is operational but is currently generating lesser electricity due to high floods in the River Indus and accumulation of trash in front of intake structure of the project.
