Bangladesh schools shut for Ramazan to save power

Bangladesh has ordered all schools and colleges to close for the Muslim holy month of Ramazan to save electricity and ease traffic congestion, the education ministry said Thursday. Schools normally remain open in Muslim-majority Bangladesh during Ramazan, which started Thursday.
Bangladesh is suffering from an acute power crisis, with long blackouts affecting even wealthy residents of the capital. The ministry said all educational institutions would re-open after September 16 following the Eid festival, which marks the end of Ramazan.
