UN Secretary General Ban Ki moon is arriving in Islamabad Sunday (today) to personally assess the flood damages across the country. During his visit, the UN chief will meet President Asif Zardari, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and other senior officials and discuss as to how the international community could help rehabilitate people and reconstruct the damaged infrastructure.
Sources said the UN chief would also pay visits to some flood-hit areas and assess the scale of the disaster. It is likely that the UN chief would announce a new assistance package after assessing the situation. Meanwhile, Chairman US Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator John Kerry would also visit Pakistan on August 18. Senator Kerry would visit the flood affectees' camps and meet with President Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani. Pakistan is expecting overwhelming global response towards flood rehabilitation.
