Saudi Arabia's security forces have foiled a new attempt on the life of the country's deputy interior minister in charge of counterterrorism, a newspaper reported Monday. The report by the Okaz newspaper said an attacker was plotting to kill Prince Mohammed bin Nayef. It was unclear at which stage of the planning stage the security forces were alerted and intervened.
If confirmed, it would be only the latest known assassination attempt against the prince, who has taken on al Qaeda terrorists operating in the kingdom. Last year, also during the ongoing holy month of Ramadan, a bomber with explosives apparently hidden inside his body blew himself up while wishing Mohammed seasonal blessings, injuring the prince.
