'20,000 families in Pabbi Tehsil need tents, not food'

Provincial Minister for Irrigation Pervez Khattak has said that 20,000 flood affected families of a dozen villages in Pabbi Tehsil have sufficient food but they needed tents because they are living under open sky. This he said while talking to APP during food package distribution under National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) motto "Access to the Needy" where 2000 families of the several villages of PF-12 and PF-13, Pabbi, District Nowshera, turned up.
Khattak appreciated the NBP for providing relief to the flood affected people. He said in PF-12 and PF-13 there is no need of food rather they badly needed tents. He said they have distributed 4000 tents among the villagers and needed 16000 more tents because they are living under the open sky. Khattak appealed to donors and NGOs to come up and help the needed people by providing tents, household items and medicines. He also called the NGOs and Sahara Trust to set up health camps in PF-12 and PF-13 to facilitate the people.
The distribution of the food items worth Rs 7.5 million is part of the relief package for 5000 families of District Nowshera and Charsadda which has been carried out through a specially constituted Disaster Management Cell of the bank. The cell is headed by Group Chief, Asif Barohi, with Chief Operating Officer (COO), Qamar Hussein, Aamir Siddiqui and Dr Izhar as its members.
The President of NBP, Ali Raza is taking keen interest in the provision of relief goods to the flood affected people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The bank has already deposited a cheque of Rs 50 million in the Prime Minister's Flood Relief Fund. The six trucks loaded of relief package were handed over to Provincial Minister for Irrigation, Pervez Khattak at Peshongro Village, Mohib Banda where the Regional Chief Muhammad Itlas and other NBP officials were also present.
The minister along with Muhammad Itlas, GM HR Imtiaz Khan distributed relief package among 320 families of Ajbar village. Likewise food package were also distributed in Shaheedabad where 200 food packages were distributed, 120 in Nowa Khali, 80 food package in Tukh Mandi, 150 in Mal Mandi, 120 in Dagai Islam, 230 in Bagh Gali, 100 in Banda Sher Islam, 155 in Cantt Korona, 225 in Zaki Jat village.
The bank is carrying the distribution in a fair and transparent way under a motto of "Access to the Needy". The assistance would be particularly dispatched to those areas, which are still awaiting relief goods. Each affected village with food for 100 families would be provided by the bank, Muhammad Atlas informed the Minister.
He said, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa the relief operation has been carried out under the supervision of the regional chief besides involving bank staff and staff of the respective branches in the flood affected areas in order to curtail expenditure cost.
He said that the distribution has been launched from ACS Colony, Nowshera where Provincial Minister for Excise & Taxation, Liaquat Shabab was the chief guest. One package of food items comprising 10 kilogram rice, 20 kilogram flour, one kilogram tealeaf, one kilogram dates and five kilograms tin of ghee.
