PIE launches drive to weed out speculators

29 Aug, 2010

Punjab Industrial Estates (PIE) has launched colonisation drive to weed out speculators and identify genuine industrialists. According to PIE spokesman, around 300 allottees were found defaulters of the original conditions of allotment, which envisaged establishment of industries within a period of 24-month.
He explained that after negotiations, more than ninety percent gave an undertaking to complete construction and come into production in next fifteen months. An insignificant number of allottees, however, resorted to politicise the issue. They were repeatedly asked to meet their obligations. As they failed to abide, PIE had to issue a public notice for the re-sale of their plots.
He further said that objective of the efforts is to encourage genuine industrialists, while weeding out speculators through a non-discriminatory and transparent process. The fact of the matter is that colonisation drive will provide jobs to thousands, besides enhancing industrial output.
