The Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (SKMCH&RC) received an amount of Rs 20.5 million Zakat from donors in a fund raising Iftar dinner. The Chairman Board of Governors of the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre Imran Khan who was the chief guest on the occasion, announced a donation of Rs 500,000, while general public contributed Rs 20 million on the spot as Zakat.
The Children also gave their pocket money as donation for the treatment of the poor cancer patients. Imran Khan appealed to the audience to extend their maximum co-operation for the smooth running of the Hospital as usual as it was a ray of hope for cancer patients.
He said that we had started this unique project of Rs 700 million with only Rs 10 million in hand. The dream of the Hospital came true only with the blessings of Almighty Allah and co-operation of the people of Pakistan as our mission was noble.
He told the audience that SKMCH&RC was providing state-of-the-art treatment facilities to 75 per cent of its patients free of cost and this was the only hospital in the world which was providing free treatment to such a large number of cancer patients and entire credit of which went to the people of Pakistan and well-wishers of SKMCH&RC.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Faisal Sultan, Chief Executive Officer of the Hospital briefed about the Hospital's ongoing and future projects and said the operating budget of the Hospital for the year 2010 was Rs 3.3 billion; we expect about half of this to be met from donations and Zakat and the other half from revenue services of the Hospital.-PR
