THE RUPEE: dollar mixed

KARACHI: Rates moved both ways on the currency market on Friday in process of strong demand for dollars, dealers said. The rupee lost five paisa versus dollar for buying at 85.65 and it also fell by six paisa for selling at 85.70, they said.

According to currency dealers, there was no visible change in the demand and supply situation of dollars. The dollar was traded at previous closing of Rs 85.25 and Rs 85.50 as its buying and selling rates, respectively.
On the contrary, the rupee failed to maintain its earlier position and depreciated against British pound. Because of increase in pound's demand, its buying and selling rates improved to Rs 131.00 and Rs 132.00 as compared to Rs 130.50 and Rs 131.50, respectively, dealers said.
The dollar opened at Rs 85.00 (buying) and Rs 85.50 (selling) against the last rate of Rs 85.00 (buying) and 85.50 (selling). It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 85.00 (buying) and Rs 85.50 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 129.78 (buying) and Rs 131.97 (selling) against the previous rate of Rs 129.81 (buying) and Rs 131.99 (selling). It did not observe further change in the last trading hours and closed at Rs 129.78 (buying) and Rs 131.97 (selling).
UAE Dirham opened at Rs 23.08 (buying) and Rs 23.32 (selling) in the morning session against the same last rate Rs 23.08 (buying) and Rs 23.32 (selling). The value of Dirham against the rupee remained unchanged in the evening session and closed at Rs 23.08 (buying) and Rs 23.32 (selling).
