04 Sep, 2010

The South Asia Media Commission (SAMC) has condemned the manhandling of Hafiz Muhammad Imran, a reporter of Dunya TV, who filmed the notorious lynching of two brothers by a mob in Sialkot in the presence of the police on August 15. Some unidentified men assaulted him outside his residence in Ghauspura-Hajipura, dislocating his shoulder and hospitalising him briefly.
Prior to the attack, he had received threats for covering the tragic incident. Najam Sethi, Secretary General of SAMC, said that such attacks pose threats to press freedom and a journalist's right to work freely.-PR
