The bloated River Indus started receding on Saturday after massive devastation in Sindh province. Officials in Sindh Irrigation Department told Business Recorder that the water level at Kotri Barrage had started receding, but the River was still flowing in a 'very high' flood at the barrage. The medium flood at Guddu and Sukkur barrages also receded to 'low flood', the irrigation officials said.
They said the Indus River at Guddu Barrage was flowing in 'low flood' where upstream volume was recorded at 3,37,036 cusecs and downstream 3,22,330 cusecs. "River Indus at the Sukkur Barrage is also flowing in low flood with upstream 3,78, 243 cusecs and downstream 3,34,123 cusecs," they said. The River Indus at Kotri Barrage is flowing in 'very high' flood and would remain in the same situation during the next 24 hours where the upstream was recorded 7,18,301 cusecs while downstream was 7,07,706 cusecs, they said in the afternoon on Saturday.
They said floodwater, gushing out from MS Bund, had flooded the taluka Sujawal and was flooding the area of Jati and Chuhar Jamali. The Daro Branch and Pinyari Lower Branch are under heavy pressure of water and overtopped at several places, they said. They said the flood water, gushing from Tori breach, was rushing towards Hamal Lake and MNV Drain (RBOD-1). The water had flooded the villages near Naseerabad area and was moving towards Naseerabad Town. Dhamraho Wah Branch is under pressure. There are serious threats to Warah town, they said.
The floodwater is flowing between Supro Band, MNV Drain (RBOD-1) and FP Bund and flowing the Dadu District, they said, adding that the water has overtopped the Johi Branch near Kali Mori and is flowing towards Johi area.
They said the floodwater was flowing towards Manchar through MNV Drain and the banks of MNV Drain were under heavy pressure and had overtopped at various places. The water overtopped the Bank of Khuda Wah, the last defence line for KN Shah Town. KN Shah Town and Indus Highway between Dadu and Larkana was flooded, they added. They said the plugging of Tori breach has been started by FWO from August 30. The whole Katcha area at the upstream and downstream of Kotri Barrage is fully inundated and there is heavy pressure on the banks, they added.
