'Media's timely reporting helped in relief work'

Media's timely reporting helped towards the relief and rescue work, said Sindh Governor, Dr Ishrat- ul- Ebad Khan here on Saturday. He was talking to editors, senior journalists and television anchors at the Governor House. The Governor said that the media reports also shed light on the plight of the flood affected people and this helped towards addressing these problems.
He stated that the government is fully extending assistance to the affected people. After the rescue operation the next phase is the rehabilitation of the affected people, he said. He pointed out that the government with the assistance of the people, is well prepared to meet the challenge of rehabilitation of the flood affected people.
The Governor said that the casualties in Sindh due to floods were quite less and most of the deaths were owing to gastro-enteritis and diarrhea in the relief camps. He stated that in the coming days more attention is required towards prevention of diseases.
Dr Ishrat was of the view that the media has an important role to play in this regard as well. He said that every segment of the society is needed to be fully mobilised to assist in the rehabilitation of the affected people. Iffat Malik of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) gave a briefing regarding the devastation of the floods and relief measures. It was pointed out that out of 23 districts in Sindh, 19 were affected owing to floods. The editors and senior journalists also expressed their views on the occasion.
