Minister of S&T visits NUST relief camp

Minister of Science and Technology, Azam Khan Swati, on Monday visited NUST relief camp established at Military College of Engineering (MCE) Risalpur. Minister was received by Rector NUST Lieutenant General Muhammad Asghar and Commandant MCE Major General Imtiaz Ahmad, who latter briefed the minister about the scenario and the steps taken by MCE to help the flood victims.
Major General Imtiaz in his briefing said that Risalpur has experienced unprecedented 300 mm rainfall which is the highest in the surrounding followed by exceptionally high flood on 29th July 2010. NUST mobilised its resources on the same day and since then 6000 to 8000 people have been rescued. Keeping in view the month of Ramazan NUST has offered 40-kg ration package to 2000 families each and has distributed Sehr/Iftar package to 11,000 families each for 40 days. These packages are being distributed on foot in the hard affected by army personnel.
Talking about the medical facilities provided to the flood victims, Commandant MCE thanked the Rector NUST for his help and support. He said that 800 to 1000 outdoor patients are being treated daily at relief camp. Ambulance facility for emergencies and female doctors are also available. Azam Khan Swati said that 2000 families will be given Rs 10,000/- per months for 10 months. A survey will be conducted to select the families. He insured that survey will be transparent and Army should also be inducted in the process for best results. Rector NUST lauded the efforts of MCE for setting up relief camp and carry out relief activities for the flood victims and assured MCE for all the help in the future.-PR
