Federal Minister for Interior, Rehman Malik has called upon Secretary General of the Interpol, Ronald K. Noble to restrict Pastor Terry Jones from burning the copies of Holy Quran on September 11. In a letter addressed to chief of the Interpol, Malik invited the attention of Interpol towards the seriousness of the issue and urged him to take the issue seriously, as it will enhance hatred for the west.
"The act may spark a wider clash between the West and Islam, and could inflict international peace and harmony", Malik stated in the letter. Malik said that this act would hurt the sentiments of Muslims around the world and destroy the efforts being made for interfaith harmony. "Interpol must play its role to stop this criminal act, as it will damage world peace," Malik said.
He stressed upon the Interpol Secretary General to take up the issue with the concerned US authorities to stop the so-called priest from burning the copies of the Holy Quran. "Muslim Ummah would be outraged by such act and the feelings of the Muslims should be respected," he added.
