The US embassy in Islamabad has denied claims that Nato soldiers in Afghanistan fired mortars across the Pakistan border, killing at least three people. Officials in North Waziristan on Friday claimed shells fired by coalition forces in the Afghan province of Khost had smashed into houses in Saidgi village.
But in a statement issued Friday, the embassy said the claims were "completely false". "According to Nato International Security Assistance Force officials, coalition forces in Afghanistan fired no mortars into Pakistan, nor were they engaged in combat operations in the vicinity of the border area near Saidgi," the statement said.
