No loadshedding on Eid: KESC fails to honour its commitment

14 Sep, 2010

Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) failed to honour its commitment of no loadshedding for three days of Eid-ul-Fitr as many parts of the city braved hours-long brownouts. The power utility, however, claimed that the breakdowns in different areas were due to the faults/tripping occurred after heavy rains on Saturday, which were later rectified.
Though there was a drastic reduction in electricity demand in the city after the rains and closure of all offices and commercial activities, the power outages in the megapolis had no justification. Consumers at Sheraton Square, Gulistan-e-Johar complained that they braved over 10 hours loadshedding due to some faults in cable but the company staff could not rectify the fault in time.
The residents of Sultanabad, who faced over 24 hours power breakdowns, came on streets on Saturday protesting against the company indifference despite several complains. Some other parts of the city including Malir Model Colony, Pehlwan Goth of Gulistan-e-Johar, UC-1 Keamari, some pats of Korangi Town, Nazimabad, etc, also faced power outages. The official sources in KESC however claimed that there was not any scheduled loadshedding in the city but some areas had faced the outages for only technical faults, which were rectified immediately after the complains.
