Crimes rate in Sindh decreased: police

Crimes rate in the Sindh province decreased remarkably during the last eight months of this year. According to Police statistics, during January-August 2010, Sindh Police killed some 32 terrorists while 56 were arrested. It also recovered about 352.5 kg of explosives, 85 detonators, 51 hand grenades, rocket launchers, 11 live bombs, two suicidal jackets and 207 sophisticated weapons from the possession of the arrested terrorists.
The police, in its statistics, also claimed that crime ratio during January-August 2010 as compared to last year had been reduced remarkably. Highway robberies decreased by 16pc, highway dacoities 7pc, bank dacoities 11pc, street crimes 33pc and killings by 11pc.
According to the statistics, 670 groups of criminals were busted, 139 dacoits were killed, and 8,469 criminals were apprehended during police encounters and 42,325 proclaimed criminals were also held by the police. On provision of information by the arrested criminals, police also recovered 5 LMGs, 583 5MG rifles, 272 rifles, 1,112 short guns and repeaters, 6,536 pistols and mousers, 98 hand grenades and rocket launchers.
The criminals arrested by the city police had some Rs 67.1 million reward money, it says. While performing duties, 55 police jawans and officers lost their lives and 86 sustained injuries, the police report said.
