Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Farzana Raja, has said that the BISP is distributing Rs 12,000 as support and immediate relief among the almost one million beneficiaries of the Programme affected by the floods, which is apart from its regular benefits.
"About six million of the total 20 million flood affected people are already registered with BISP and are getting regular support from the BISP", Farzana Raja said while talking to Iranian Women Delegation led by Maryam Mojtahedzadeh, Advisor to President Ahmadinejad here on Friday.
Iranian delegation called on Farzana Raja during its visit to BISP headquarters. The delegation was comprised of besides Maryam Mojtahedzadeh, Fatemeh Alia, a female parliamentarian and the wife of Iranian Ambassador Masha'allah Shakeri. Ambassador Shakeri also accompanied the delegation.
Farzana Raja apprised the delegation about the devastation caused by the latest floods, saying that about 20 million people have been affected by the floods while it has damaged infrastructure and crops worth hundreds of billion. The Iranian delegation appreciated the idea of BISP and said that Benazir Bhutto was not only the daughter of Pakistan she was also the daughter of Iran. The delegates informed that 70 tons of relief goods, especially for the flood-affected women, would be delivered in Karachi. They apprised Farzana Raja about the various steps taken by the Iranian government for the empowerment of women.
