Punjab Governor Salman Taseer on Saturday requested Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to constitute a judicial commission to probe into the Punjab Special Branch report regarding a plot to kill LHC CJ Khawaja Sharif. Addressing a press conference here, Taseer said he made this request through a letter addressed to the Chief Justice.
He urged the Chief Justice to order a probe into the matter so that the culprits behind the conspiracy could be exposed. He urged Shahbaz to look into the leakage of the report by Tauqir Shah, private secretary of the CM. "He should now come forward and clarify whether or not the report was leaked with his permission," he added.
He termed the report as baseless saying that it was a conspiracy against him. He also saw the report as a conspiracy against democracy and the federal government. "Pakistan is passing through a rough patch, and appearance of such reports is an attempt to destabilise the federal government," he added.
