Lahore High Court Chief Justice (CJ), while expressing dissatisfaction on a police report, directed SSP Operations to hold fresh inquiry into an alleged incident of raping of a handicapped married woman by a constable, here on Monday. The CJ had taken suo motu notice of the incident and summoned SSP operations and the SP concerned.
On Monday, SP investigation presented a report on behalf of SSP operations, which stated that the woman had made a concocted story to sabotage arrest of her husband and others in a criminal case. He, however, said that the alleged responsible sub-inspector Mian Salam and constable Javed Bhatti were suspended and SP Civil Lines was holding inquiry into the matter.
Rejecting the story of police, CJ Khawaja Muhammad Sharif observed, "Police officials play havoc with the lives of innocent citizens and their officers protect them and also waste time of courts." He directed the SP to hold inquiry into the incident afresh and submit report on September 24.
The CJ had taken suo motu notice on a news item published in an English newspaper stating that the woman's husband, along-with his mother were in police custody in connection with a kidnapping case. Police also brought the victim woman to CIA Nawankot police station for interrogation. Later, on the directions of DSP Nasir Hanif, a sub-inspector Mian Aslam, constable Javed Bhatti and a driver dropped the woman (Bushra) at her residence in Baghbanpura area. The victim Bushra alleged that constable Javed Bhatti and the driver orally abused her on her way to home.
