Governor Punjab Salmaan Taseer has ruled out the possibility of mid-term elections and said that general elections would be held in 2013. He said that we would again approach to the masses to come into power."We came into power through people's votes not boots", he added. PPP never depended upon the "Boots" (army) like others.
Delivering his speech in Muzaffargarh on Monday he said,"we would let them alone in the crucial time. He said that Government would transfer the money in the account of flood affectees regularly and they would draw this amount through "Watan-cards". Salmaan Taseer said PPP and federal government had provided assistance to the flood stricken people and now it would provide financial assistance for their rehabilitation, reconstruction of their homes. All these schemes were introduced by PPP and Federal Government for the welfare of the flood affected people.
Salmaan Taseer said that we had appeared before the people's court now they would have to decide about the fate of PPP. Governor Punjab added that the flood victims would be re-settled and financially assisted on the same pattern as that adopted for the rehabilitation of Swat's IDPs."We would apply the same pattern of rehabilitation in South Punjab, which was applied in Swat. He said that we had established a number of offices in flood-hit areas to facilitate the affectees.
Salmaan Taseer says that he will not abandon the victims of the flood in dire circumstances and that all resources will be made available until the affected persons are completely rehabilitated. While speaking to the media, Governor Taseer said that it was imperative for resourceful people of the affected communities to step forward and do their utmost in mitigating the immediate problems faced by the flood victims.
He added, "There is little doubt that Pakistan is a nation of courageous people. However, it is essential that we put aside self-interest, discrimination or political affiliations in order to sustain the flood affected through this trying ordeal."The Governor explained that he had arrived in south Punjab with 35 trucks of relief goods and that he would continue to do so in the weeks to come. He thanked Saudi Arabia and UAE for its position as forerunner in providing support to the flood affected.
Later, Governor Punjab distributed the Watan cards among the food victims of Muzaffargarh. While addressing the flood affected people, the Governor said, "I visit the flood-ravaged areas of South Punjab by driving through them myself. I have travelled thousands kilometres in order to personally identify your problems. I don't use a helicopter because the land facts are incorrectly estimated." He added, "I know all of you have lost your homes, lands and crops. We recognise your damages and Insha Allah will rehabilitate you as soon as possible." My governorship is a trust of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and if I cannot help the people, then this governorship is a useless one," Governor Taseer stated while addressing flood victims. He said the time was not for politics, but to stand united.
