Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Zakat and Ushar, Zarshed Khan said that the government was taking practical steps to ensure judicious and transparent distribution of Zakat funds among widows, orphans and other deserving persons, including poor students, in the province.
He was speaking in a meeting convened to discuss and review the performance and just distribution of Zakat money. The meeting was attended by provincial Minister for Information, Iftikhar Hussain, and district Zakat chairmen and other concerned officers of Zakat department here on Friday.
The minister said that the government was spending huge amounts among the needy and deserving people without any political affiliation or discrimination. He said that this year one 1,20,000 deserving people benefited from the Zakat while 28,000 needy students of technical institutions were also getting Zakat scholarships.
He said that Guzara allowance, dowry and free of cost medicines were being provided to the poor and other deserving persons in major hospitals of the province. Zarshed lauded the overall performance of all heads of the district Zakat offices, and directed them to further improve their performance and deliver services on merit basis so that the Zakat funds could be available to the destitute and Mustahiqeen in the province.
