The process of annual elections of Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) was completed in a very friendly environment, here on Saturday, wherein Ghulam Mustafa Choudary was elected unopposed as president for year 2010-11. Similarly, Dr Sarfraz Bashir and Adnan Sarwar Kapoor were elected as vice presidents of SCCI.
The newly elected office bearers would assume responsibilities from October 1. It may be mentioned that all the office bearers are belong to Ittehad Founder Group. The overall election campaign was carried out with simplicity keeping in view the miseries of flood affectees and vast devastation in the country. It may be pointed out that Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has donated more than Rs 1.25 crore (over 12 million) for flood relief so far.
The business community of this export-oriented city has not only focused on enhancing export volume, but also fulfilled its social responsibilities with devotion and zeal. This unique approach of business community of the city has resulted into implementation of various projects in the social sector, infrastructure development and promotion of business activities.
The ruling group of SCCI constructed city roads by contributing 0.25 percent of their exports proceeds. This collective effort of the exporters encouraged the government to share financial contribution and by virtue of this, all main arteries in Sialkot were developed into international standard roads.
The business community of Sialkot also set a unique precedent by setting up Sialkot International airport which is successfully functioning and catering to the needs of not only the business community, but also general public of Sialkot and adjoining districts.
In addition, Sialkot Industrial Development Centre was set up to develop products for the industry and help it in facing the challenge of mechanised ball and other challenges. This project was conceived and initiated by the private sector in co-ordination with the federal government.
Today, construction of Sialkot Business and Commerce Centre is in full swing and the completion of the project would play an instrumental role to promote exports. Ittehad Founder Group (the ruling group of SCCI) has been playing a significant role in the overall development of the city and in fulfilling its social responsibilities.
