Though two cases of human deaths by dengue have been confirmed in the city this year while many patients are suffering from the dangerous fever, the government is yet to take steps against the fast spreading disease. After the monsoon rains across the country the dengue cases are reportedly spreading, the immediate fumigation was needed to stop the tropical fever.
The fever which is mostly caused by a virus that is transmitted by mosquitoes and marked by high fever, rash, headache, and severe muscle and joint pains, was reported to have infected many people in the city's hospitals. Despite the claims of concerned authorities in the Sindh Government and City Government for starting fumigation with arrangements of required medications in hospitals, the increasing cases of this dangerous fever has alarmed the lives of the people across the city.
It is worth mentioning here that the city government had earlier claimed that the Health Group of Offices of City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has arranged Town wise Fumigation Programme under the Malaria Control Programme/Dengue fever in the jurisdiction of City District Government Karachi, which commenced from September 22 as per schedule.
According to schedule spray would be performed in Gulberg Town on September 22, Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town September 23, Saddar Town September 24, Lyari Town September 27, Jamshed Town September 28, Keamari Town September 29, Baldia Town September 30, Orangi Town October 1, Site Town October 4, Liaquatabad Town October 5, North Nazimabad Town October 6, North Karachi Town October 7, Malir Town October 8, Shah Faisal Town October 11, Landhi Town October 12, Korangi Town October 13, Bin Qasim Town October 14 and Gadap Town on October 15,2010 at 3:30pm.
