Chaudhry Muhammad Nasrullah Warraich, Chairman, Executive & Human Rights Committees of the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) has strongly condemned the unfair, unjust and illegal 86 years sentencing in prison of Dr Aafia Siddiqui by a US court and appealed to the lawyers community specially the Provincial Bar Councils and all the Bar Associations to observe complete strike on October 1.
He said that the verdict given after a fast track trial conducted under the shadow of bias and that too in the absence of any credible and solid evidence blatantly negates the internationally accepted legal norms and ethics. The US court looks to have been so much pre-determined and biased that it also just ignored the fact that she has already undergone an ordeal of being subject of continuous torture in US prison for over 5 years.
He has also severely criticised Musharraf regime for handing over Dr Aafia Siddiqui to US authorities ensuring in return, its perpetuation in power even at the cost of Pakistani citizens. He has demanded of the government to take immediate steps and accelerate its efforts on political, diplomatic and legal fronts for early repatriation of Dr Aafia Siddiqui to Pakistan.
He has also called upon the global human rights organisations and the Civil Society of US who believe in civil liberates and Human Rights, to ledge strong protest against the unjust and unfair trial of Dr Aafia Siddiqui and awarding her such a harsh sentence of 86 years in jail on the unbelievable and apparent false charges of attempting to murder a US soldier whereas in fact she was brutally assaulted and severely injured by the US armed soldiers.
