Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has rejected the IMF-dictated economic policies being followed by the present PPP-led government, saying that these policies have caused hyperinflation. Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Chairman PTI Imran Khan said that the government under the dictation of the IMF has crushed the common man by withdrawing subsidies being given on utilities.
The ruling elite continues to indulge in massive corruption and tax evasion instead of resolving the problems of the masses, Imran Khan said, adding that the government has failed to deliver on all fronts. "It must quit and hold mid-term elections forthwith under an independent Election Commission", Khan said, adding that the elections must be transparent in which people can choose their true representatives.
PTI chief demanded new electoral list based on NADRA database at the earliest to avoid bogus voting. "PTI would not be part of any unconstitutional or extra constitutional move or set up", Khan added. He demanded immediate implementation of the Supreme Court verdicts, saying that his party is preparing for a final long march if the efforts to undermine judiciary and its independence were not shunned.
Meanwhile, PTI's Central Executive Committee (CEC) held PPP-led government responsible for intensifying problems of general masses. The PTI's CEC in its meeting took certain decisions pertaining to the fragile economic situation of the country. The CEC totally rejected the IMF-dictated economic policies that are causing hyperinflation and denying the right of food, power and education to the masses.
According to the decisions of CEC, PTI has condemned in the strongest terms the biased US federal court's verdict on Dr Afia Siddiqui and is planning to launch a nation-wide movement for her release if the government is unable to effect the repatriation of Dr Aafia immediately.
Furthermore, CEC has passed a unanimous resolution strongly condemning Indian human rights violations in Occupied Kashmir and has demanded the Kashmiris be given right of self-determination as committed to them under the UNSC Resolutions. PTI has also condemned the drone attacks that have killed thousands of Pakistani civilians.
Even more shameful is the complicity of the government of Pakistan and President Zardari's statement that he is not concerned about "collateral damage" due to these attacks - that is the death of innocent Pakistani citizens. The CEC meeting also condemned the target killings in Karachi and Balochistan, which continue unabated. In addition, PTI has demanded that Overseas Pakistanis should also be given the right to vote.
