On the direction of Secretary Health, the Punjab AIDS Control Programme, in collaboration with UNICEF and UNAIDS, has distributed "Treatment, Care & Support Packages" to AIDS patients from flood affected districts. The packages were comprised of food items, blankets, bed sheets, medicines and travelling charges. The representatives of Health Department, Punjab AIDS Control Programme, UNAIDS, UNICEF and DHQ Hospital, DG Khan were present on the occasion.
The Punjab AIDS Control Programme has secured a grant of Rs 4.8 million from United Nation for care and support for registered AIDS patients in flood affected districts of the Punjab. The grant shall be provided in two trenches. The PACP had earlier arranged for provision of one month's medicines for treatment of AIDS to all its patients in the flood-affected districts.
These medicines were airlifted to DG Khan during the flood. There are a total number of 348 AIDS patients in flood-affected districts of the Punjab. In the first phase, 178 packages were distributed at DG Khan. In the next phase, these packages shall be provided to 162 patients at Sargodha.
