Nawaz Sharif said on Saturday that the government should immediately provide Rs 100,000 per family for provinces to construct homes in the flood affected areas. While vowing to rehabilitate the flood affected people as national responsibility, he said that the international donors and friends, having helped out Pakistan in this need of hour are commendable.
The PML-N leader was speaking at a party meeting at the Chief Minister Secretariat. Leading party members including Nisar Ali Khan, Iqbal Zafar Jaghra, Zulfiqar Khan Khosa, Mohammad Asif, Ahsan Iqbal and Pervaiz Rasheed attended the meeting. The PML-N meeting was held to finalise arrangements relating to the September 30 International Donors' Conference by Punjab government. Nawaz urged the philanthropists to come forward to rehabilitate the flood affected people.
According to him, honest spending of donors' money was an important responsibility. He said he himself, besides PML-N and the Punjab government, would continue with relief work until last flood affected person is back home. He said the flood affected people are brothers and sisters and no one should take rest until the rehabilitated. He said he would visit the flood affected areas repeatedly and would participate in the rehabilitation initiatives.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif underlined the importance of International Donors' Conference, saying that it would be pivotal in rehabilitation work. He said invitations had been extended to international welfare organisations, donor agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and foreign diplomats and delegations from welfare organisations. He said that details of various under-consideration rehabilitation plans would be presented before the participants of the conference. He briefed about Punjab government initiatives taken till date and donations received under the Chief Minister Relief Fund. He said he himself was monitoring the relief work to ensure transparent utilisation of relief funds.
