Government committed to rehabilitating flood victims: Speaker National Assembly

Speaker National Assembly, Dr Fahmida Mirza has said the government is fully aware and committed to meet the challenges to rehabilitate flood victims. "Government has geared up all resources to rehabilitate and compensate the losses to flood victims in collaboration with international community," she said during a visit to various relief camps here on Saturday in Badin district.
Provincial Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza, Dubai based industrialist Arif Polani, Iqbal Lakhani and former cricketer Zaheer Abbas and PPP leader barrister Hasnain Mirza were also accompanied by the Speaker. Talking to media persons, the Speaker said that assistance and rehabilitation of the flood victims was responsibility of the government. She said that on the directives of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, all the elected representatives were serving the masses in their respective constituencies.
She said that the present floods were unprecedented in the history of the country, which caused displacement of over 20 million people and caused huge damages to the life, property and agriculture sector. Dr Fahmida Mirza said that present local and international assistance to the flood victims will continue till their complete rehabilitation.
Moreover, she said that efforts were being made to further expedite the disbursement of 'Watan Cards' among the flood victims transparently and efficiently by Nadra officials. She said that it was time for the nation and particularly all the politicians to shun differences and come forward and serve the flood victims without any discrimination as was being expected by the victims of flood. On the occasion she also distributed relief goods among the flood victims at various camps and thanked the Dubai based philanthropists for providing donation to the flood victims.
