A group of 28 Higher Education Commission (HEC) scholars have successfully completed MS Engineering studies in top ranking universities of South Korea and returned to Pakistan in August 2010. Under the particular programme entitled "MS Level Training in Korean Universities/Industries," 131 scholars have already returned to Pakistan.
The HEC has initiated the biggest programme of scholarships in the history of Pakistan to give a jumpstart to the development of human resources for meeting the requirement of universities, R&D organisations and industry in the country. These efforts are bearing fruit and so far 1044 scholars have returned to Pakistan and are serving various universities/organisations after completion of MS/M Phil (184), PhD (500) and Post Doctoral (360) studies. There is still a huge demand of highly trained manpower due to rapid expansion of higher education sector of the country.
Under the abovementioned programme, a total of 200 HEC scholars were sent to South Korea out of which 159 have successfully completed their studies in hi-tech engineering disciplines. These engineering graduates were enrolled in Masters in engineering programmes of the top ranking universities of South Korea, many of which are ranked amongst top 100 universities.
This programme has been especially designed for engineers, which is aimed at preparing high-tech work force to be deployed in the industrial sector of Pakistan. Through this programme, the HEC scholars have also got a chance to work on real life projects being run by leading Korean Industries like LG, Samsung, KIA, Daewoo, Hyundai, etc.
These scholars are legally bound to serve in Pakistan for a minimum period of two years. In this regard, a well-managed "Placement Cell" has also been established in HRD Division of HEC for placement of returned scholars in various public and private sector universities/R&D organisations of Pakistan.-PR
