'Social Audit Centre' at Sindh university inaugurated

The Vice Chancellor (VC), University of Sindh Professor Dr Nazir A. Mughal has said that research is the backbone of development and a major source for generating resources. He was speaking on the occasion of inauguration of "Social Audit Research Centre" of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Sindh, here on Monday. The Social Audit Research Centre has been jointly funded by UNDP-DTCE and University of Sindh.
The VC said establishing of 'Social Audit Research Centre' is an excellent work done by the team of the varsity. He said that the concept of social audit is to build trust among stakeholders, supported by a number of development organisations. He said that in the month of March of current year, a letter was sent to the deans to set up research centres in their faculties. He said that nowadays, it is the need of hour that varsities focus on research and generate their own resources for development.
Professor Dr Mughal recalled that the Higher Education Commission (HEC), in the past, gave a lot of money to varsities but did not guide them as how to generate their own resources. We are asking the faculty to mould itself and look in to ground realties of these days, adding 'we are not asking for the profit but no loss no profit'.
The VC urged upon the faculty members to find and suggest ways to generate financial resources. He recalled that vice chancellors of the executive council, during a number of meetings, approved reforms for higher education and research and revised the fee structure of certificates and degrees, and that for every decision of the council, every member is responsible.
He said that every teacher has freedom to share his ideas for the development of the varsity. He urged the teachers to come if they have any idea or any problems to discuss with the concerned deans or even himself. Professor Dr Mughal said he has given powers to the deans to made decisions on merit.
