Bangladeshi coast guard takes on pirates

Bangladesh's coast guard said Monday they had launched a crackdown on rampant piracy in the country's southern Sunderbans mangrove forests to protect fishermen. Armed pirates routinely rob, kidnap or extort money from fishermen working along the southern coastline, particularly during the fishing season for the hilsa, Bangladesh's national fish, lieutenant commander Lokman Hakim told AFP.
