Newly elected President of the Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) Shahid Naseem Khokhar and Senior Vice President Sheikh Atta Shafi Tanvir took the charge of their offices in a simple but impressive ceremony which was chaired by the outgoing president Malik Asrar Ahmed Awan. Shahid Naseem Khokhar has said that he would come up to the expectation of the members of MCCI.
He said that he would require co-operation and help from the entire Executive Committee of the Multan Chamber to run the affairs of its body smoothly.
He was addressing the members of the Multan Chamber of commerce and industry at the Annual General Meeting. The meeting was also attended by Election Commissioners Malik Mehmood Ahmed Awan, Khawaja Muhammad Abdullah,and Sheikh Sarfraz Former presidents Mian Mughis A Sheikh, Khawaja Muhammad Yousaf ,Tanvir Ahmed Sheikh, Anees Ahmed Sheikh, Muhammad Khan Saddozai. Shahid Naseem said that the issue of Kalabagh Dam had unduly been politicised.
He said more availability of water through dams would ensure food security of the country besides ensuring availability of some vital raw materials of the industry. Low cost power, he added, would be an additional benefit as the country currently is facing dual problem of power shortage and high cost. He said that special focus would be given to the revival of agro-based industry as the recent floods have caused unprecedented loss to a large number of crops. He said country has lost substantial quantity of cotton and irri rice has also been badly damaged that would put pressure on rice mills and textile industry.
