Power shortage crosses 4,000 megawatts

Power shortfall crossed 4,000MW during last 24 hours with rise in mercury on the one hand and short gas supply to power producing units on the other hand. A Pepco spokesman said here on Friday that the gap between electricity generation and demand increased by 4387MW, as total generation was recorded at 11240MW against a demand of 15627MW.
Pepco hydel powerhouses produced 4,687MW, thermal powerhouses generated 1744MW whereas IPPs contributed 4747MW and RPP 62 MW electricity. Pepco supplied 670MW electricity to KESC. Meanwhile, a technical fault at the 220KV Kot Lakhpat grid station resulted into power disruption for eight hours in the city a night earlier. However, the LESCO spokesman said the fault was detected and corrected accordingly.
