Highlighting services of great scholar Shamsul Ulma Mirza Kalich Baig, the noted scholars and intellectuals paid rich tributes to him and stressed the need for preserving his manuscripts. Shamsul Ulma Mirza Kalich Beg Chair, University of Sindh organised a one-day symposium on contribution of Shamsul Ulma Mirza Kalich Baig towards social development/reforms on Monday.
The speakers said that he created awareness among the masses through his writings. Kalich was a very strong believer in the unity in society and also of its development with collective efforts, they said. Mehr Afroz Habib, Granddaughter of Kalich said that moto of Kalich's life was to seek knowledge. She said that in those days society was not so much advanced and only few families used to send their girls for education but he always encouraged women to educate their daughters.
Kalich always supported women and encouraged them to get education and believed that women and man jointly can play role for change in society and that change will develop family unit for the advancement of society. Afroz also thanked the scholars and organisers for their love and respect for Mirza Kalich and his family. Mirza Aijaz Beg speaking on the occasion said that there are a number of manuscripts lying with him and stressed the need for preservation.
He said that books published many decades ago are also now counted as manuscripts and advised the Kalich chair to collect and made efforts for the printing on priority. He said that title of Shamsul Ulma (Tamgha), cloths and other items, which remained in use of Kalich are very safe but there is need to preserve them properly. He requested to Speaker of National Assembly to release the amount of donation as she announced for the Kalcih Chair. He also appealed the lovers of Mirza Kalich Beg to come forward for their financial help for the construction of separate building of Kalich Chair..
The Dean faculty of Arts and Director of Kalich Chair Dr Muhammad Qasim Bughio who presided over the symposium said that Kalich played a pioneering role in Sindhi literature. Kalich Chair has organised symposium to develop a culture of discussion among youth.
Noted scholar Gul Muhammad Umrani said that Kalich was great lover of his mother tongue and he also translated many books in Sindhi language. He said that Kalich touched every topic in his writings and when we see his books are available on almost every topic. He said that Kalich without luxurious facilities visited every part of Sindh and dedicated life in search of knowledge and education. He said that Kalich was a firm believer in freedom of thought.
