US MIDDAY: coffee and sugar tumble

Arabica coffee futures reeled from late investor sales to end Monday at a 5-week low and raw sugar closed near a month low from investment fund pressure. Cocoa lost ground as well. The benchmark March sugar lost 0.37 cent to finish near a month low at 22.99 cents per lb. March traded from 22.49 to 23.38 cents.
December arabica coffee futures sank 8.60 cents or by 4.75 percent to settle at $1.725 per lb. It was the lowest close for the market in 5 weeks, Thomson Reuters data showed. Benchmark December cocoa dropped $47 or by 1.69 percent to close at $2,736 per tonne. Contract dealt between $2,731 and $2,784.
